Sophie Mason serves as The Compass’s managing editor. Sophie is a sophomore double-majoring in International Affairs and Psychology. This summer, she worked as an intern at the Centre for Refugees, handling casework and communications material for the organization. She also serves as an associate editor for The Globe, the Elliott School’s undergraduate international affairs journal, and as the director of programming for GW Strategic Crisis Simulations.
Parth Kotak serves as The Compass’s contributing editor and is a double major in International Affairs and Economics. In addition to his duties for The Compass, Parth interns at the U.S. Department of Justice and also serves as blog editor for The Hatchet, the George Washington University’s independent student newspaper and as editor-at-large for The GW Justice Journal, an undergraduate law and policy blog. Parth’s interests include the political economy of developing nations, financial markets, and regulatory law. His views, of course, are his own.
Peter Brukx is a staff writer at The Compass. He is an International Affairs major at the Elliott School, interested in European politics and security policy. He is also a member of the GW College Democrats Blog Committee and is the GW Club Swim Team Assistant Coach.
Nico (Yike) Han is a staff writer at The Compass. She is majoring in International Affairs with concentrations in Asia and Europe, having completed part of her study at Waseda University and the London School of Economics. She is the strategist and panel facilitator for GW Global China Connection and a co-founder of the student publication Cathay’s Review. In her spare time, she writes fiction, hikes, and volunteers as an orientation leader at the GW Office of Study Abroad.
Lorenzo Marchetti is a staff writer at The Compass. He is majoring in International Affairs with concentrations in Conflict Resolution and International Politics, focusing on Europe and the Middle East. He serves as president of 2020 A Year Without War Italia, whose aim is to secure a global ceasefire in 2020. He represented the organization at the United Nation International Peace Day in 2016 and at the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Bogotá in 2017. He is also a member of Sigma Iota Rho, the international relations honor society at the Elliott School. In his spare time, he likes to cook, read and talk about art with his friends.
Julia Broomer is a staff writer at The Compass. She is a freshman majoring in International Affairs with a concentration in the Middle East and minoring in Arabic and Sociocultural Anthropology. Her interests include counter-terrorism, social and political conflict in the Middle East and North Africa, and comparative cultures in the region.
Ananya Murthy is a staff writer at The Compass. She is a freshman in the Elliott School of International Affairs interested in international economics and human rights issues. In addition to writing for the Compass, she is a member of the GW Mock Trial team and of University Singers.
Raj Rao is a staff writer at The Compass. He is a freshman in the Elliott School majoring in international affairs. Outside of writing for the Compass, he is a member of Roosevelt Institute at GW.
